Drunk Droning in New Jersey
If you have not heard about drones then you are potentially missing out on one of today’s most popular technologies. Simply put, a drone is a pilotless aircraft or missile. Originally known for its use within the military, drones today are now built and used by the public. There are drones designed to be toys for anyone to fly around on a nice day. There are also more costly drones that come with built in cameras that many people like photographers, videographers and journalists can use for work. There is even the possibility that in the near future, companies like Amazon will be using drones to make deliveries. With the world of drones growing rapidly there will of course need to be regulations and rules put into place to keep it safe for users and the general public. That is why New Jersey is already looking to crack down on potential problems of future and current drone use. Along with other states, New Jersey lawmakers recently voted to approve a new bill to help regulate the drone market.
New Jersey DUI Laws
The bill will basically make it a crime to drink and drone. It will be a disorderly persons offense to operate a drone:
Knowingly or intentionally in a manner that endangers the life of property of another
To take or assist in the taking of wildlife
While under the influence of intoxicating liquor, a narcotic, hallucinogen, or habit-producing drug or with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent or more by weight of alcohol
The disorderly offenses carry penalties of up to six months in jail, a fine of up to $1,000 or both.
Other activities with a drone are also banned under the bill. It will be prohibited to spy on or endanger the safety or security of a correctional facility, interfere with first responders, violate a restraining order, prevent or hinder the lawful taking of wildlife and harass/stalk/invade privacy.
