Atlantic County Drug Court Programs Attorney & Cape May Criminal Defense Lawyer
In addition to the traditional court, the state of New Jersey also has a drug court program that is designed to rehabilitate individuals who are dealing with drug and alcohol problems. Drug court is a special probationary program that requires five years of drug and alcohol treatment, testing and recovery services. Participants in the program must maintain lawful employment, pass all drug tests and appear in court when required. At my firm, I, John W. Tumelty, have practiced criminal law in Atlantic City, Cape May, Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood and across the state of New Jersey for more than 30 years. Since defendants who successfully complete the drug court program avoid jail time, I often recommend this option in situations where it is advantageous to my clients. I want my clients to get the help that they need and avoid incarceration whenever possible.

By graduation, 90 percent of all drug court graduates are employed; a remarkable increase from the 24 percent of drug court participants who had a job when they entered the diversionary program.
Additionally, 95% of the drug tests administered to participants in the program have come back negative.
Any adult resident of New Jersey who is charged with criminal offenses and facing possible jail time may avoid jail if eligible for the local drug court program.
